Mandap Decoration

The structure the ceremony happens under, built and dressed by the same people, so the shape and the flowers are designed together rather than negotiated on the day.

A white arched mandap lit from within at night, approached by warm-lit steps and clipped hedging, built by Kature Decorators in Pune

A mandap has to work from two distances at once. Up close it frames the couple and the families sitting inside it, so the detail near eye level has to hold. From the back of a lawn it is a silhouette, and if that shape is weak no amount of floral work will save it. We design the form first and dress it second.

Because we fabricate our own structures, the mandap is not chosen from a catalogue of three. Arched, pillared, open pergola, closed and canopied: the frame is built for the venue and the ceremony rather than adapted to fit.

Lighting is designed with it, not added afterwards. An evening ceremony needs the mandap lit from inside to read at all, and that is a decision made while the structure is still on paper.
